This concert: A music and song tribute to Irish Gaelic poetry from the 17th & 18th century and beyond.
with Special guests : Seán O’Nuallain – Guitar, and from the London-Irish community : James Patrick Gavin on fiddle
Melanie agus a Chairde perform the music and songs of three major composers and poets of 17th century Ireland , Aodhagán O’Rahaille, and Eoghan Rua Ó Súilleabháin while Melanie sings and weaves Turlough O’Carolan’s own lyrics into his famous melodies, something that has not been done before. This group will weave instrumentals into songs to which Melanie and Seán will also add their own original songs inspired by the poetry and songs of the great Irish bardic tradition. deeply rooted in the Irish tradition with contemporary arrangements and improvisation.
